Why owners join

It’s lonely at the top

You have people working for you, and you still feel isolated. You shield your team from your doubts, and a lot of energy goes into keeping up a confident front, because you’ve learned that oversharing at work often plants the seeds of future problems.

So you end up doing too much on your own, disconnected from the outside. Your friends and family don’t understand the issues you face, and you can’t really confide in your employees.

Building a network of trusted, unbiased advisors on your own can feel close to impossible. Yet other owners in your situation feel the same isolation and can offer support. The problem is finding them, and finding a way to talk to them safely. That is where a Leaders’ Peer Group comes in.

Choose your group

One group for each discipline

There are three Leaders’ Peer Groups: one for lawn care, one for landscape, and one for tree care. They run the same way. The difference is who is in the room.

  • Lawn care

Leaders’ Peer Group for lawn care owners

Lawn care owners working through their most pressing issues with other owners who run the same kind of business.

  • Landscape

Leaders’ Peer Group for landscape owners

Landscape owners working through their most pressing issues with other owners who run the same kind of business.

  • Tree care

Leaders’ Peer Group for tree care owners

Tree care owners working through their most pressing issues with other owners who run the same kind of business.

Why they are separate

Owners talk most openly with people who do what they do

“You probably think of yourself as a tree guy, a landscaper, or a turf guy, and you may feel owners in the other disciplines don’t understand what you deal with every day. That’s why I keep the peer groups separate. In your group, everyone around the table does what you do.”

Fred Haskett, your facilitator

Every group follows the same rhythm: 2 face-to-face meetings a year, two and a half days each, plus conference calls with the facilitator twice a month.

About the Mastermind
The power and safety of a group

6 principles every Leaders’ Group runs on

These are what make a group safe to speak in, and what keep it useful to everyone in it.

  • Non-competing members

Your peers come from different companies and organizations, never your own.

  • No conflict of interest

There are no customer or supplier relationships between members.

  • No hidden agenda

The only goal in the room is to help each other as much as possible.

  • Nothing that weakens the group

No personality conflicts or anything else getting in the way. Problems that come up are discussed, and if one can’t be resolved, a member may be referred to a group that fits better.

  • Total confidentiality

Nothing leaves the group. Nothing is shared, not even with spouses.

  • Commitment to the process

Members attend 2 face-to-face group meetings a year, two and a half days each, and take part in twice-monthly conference calls with the facilitator.

A year in a Leaders’ Peer Group

A steady rhythm, not a one-off retreat

The lawn care, landscape, and tree care groups all run the same way.

  1. Join

    A group of non-competing peers

Your group is made up of owners in similar situations from different companies, with no customer or supplier ties between you.

  2. Meet in person

    2 group meetings a year

Face-to-face meetings of two and a half days, where members help each other deal with their burning issues and improve their business practices.

  3. Stay in touch

    Calls twice a month

Conference calls with the facilitator throughout the year, between the in-person meetings.

Questions about peer groups

Will a competitor be in my group?

No. Members come from different companies and organizations, and there are no customer or supplier relationships between them.

How confidential is it?

Completely. Nothing discussed in the group leaves it, and nothing is shared, not even with spouses.

What’s the time commitment?

Members attend 2 face-to-face group meetings each year, two and a half days each, and take part in twice-monthly conference calls with the facilitator.

Does the group tell me what to do?

No. The best peer groups don’t try to give you the answers. You hear the methods other owners have used to solve problems, and the questions you haven’t been asking, and you decide what’s right for your business.

What if a group isn’t the right fit?

Problems that come up are discussed openly. If one can’t be resolved, a member may be referred to another group that fits better.

Which group is right for me?

The one for your discipline: lawn care, landscape, or tree care. The groups are kept separate on purpose, so you sit with owners who do what you do. The Mastermind Group is by invitation, for leaders of high-revenue companies.
